This week's Fannish Five.
Crossposted with my LJ.
Who are your five favorite fictional teachers or mentors?
1. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars) - Seriously, he was awesome. It's not his fault Anakin was emo.
2. Rupert Giles (BtVS) - Dude, Giles was a librarian/watcher/demon hunter. What a combination!
3. Duncan McLeod (Highlander) - I'm counting Duncan since he taught Richie. With all the crap Duncan put up with from Richie, he should get a freaking medal. Also, Duncan was hot.
4. Captain Edward Pellew (Horatio Hornblower) - Pellew had to put up with a lot. I mean, A LOT. Not only that, but the Indefatigable was always there at just the right time. Pellew is above and beyond the call of awesome. <3
5. Dr. Gregory House (House) - Yeah, he's a strict teacher and if you make a mistake, he's not going to sugarcoat it. But seriously? Sometimes people need that. He's blunt and tells you when you're being stupid. That way, you won't make the same mistake ever again.

Hm...
1. Captain Edward Pellew (Horatio Hornblower) – He knows exactly what kind of things Horatio is capable of, and manages to be there with the right amount of angry yelling and happy promotions to help him get away with it. Also, those hats are amazing.
2. Samuel Vimes (Discworld series) – Goes from unconscious drunk in a gutter to Duke of Ankh-Morpork, and manages to bring everyone else up with him. But, most importantly, he teaches Captain Carrot that people don’t need kings, they need protectors. Oh, and then he goes back in time, and teaches it all to his younger self, so that he can teach Carrot in the future… *sigh* could I love him more?
3. Yoda (Star Wars) - The amount of patience this little guy can show is amazing. He originally trains children, which is probably why he can put up with Luke’s constant whining. But, when it comes down to it, he can also kick some serious ass.
4. Zordon (Power Rangers) – Shut up. You know you love him. I friggin cried when he died… both times! He devoted his life to save a planet that was not his own, and turned group after group of untrained teenagers into warriors. Not to mention he did all of this as a giant head in a glass tube…er… Time Vortex…
5. Luna, Artemis and Diana (Sailor Moon) – Yes, the talking cats. Like Yoda, these three deserve a medal for all the shit they put up with. They wait millennia for their princess to reincarnate, turn a bunch of kids into warriors, and then have to start all over again when they lose all memory of what has happened. And that is only in the first season! What devotion!
