Yay job
Okay, so I suck at the updating thing.
So apparently VPHP, my old work, heard that all my friends were having a 'quit/lose their job' party and didn't want me to be left out. Thus two weeks ago I got a call from my agency, Aerotek and oops today was your last day and what things do you need us to pick up? I do a double take into the phone and am all, 'My last day???' Now I had heard that VPHP was going through financial trouble and had laid off a few people, but the meeting we had had earlier that week had been about the downsizing and how "there wouldn't be any more layoffs so your job is totally okay no need to worry at all." Except, apparently not. My recruiter was of course sorry that I lost my job and said he was as shocked as I was blah blah. Yeah, that totally helps when you have a job and I don't, thanks. So I just nod at the phone, tell him the possessions they need to pick up for me, etc and tell him I'd stop be Aerotek the next day (Friday). And then I hang up and just cry into Chris' shoulder for about 15 minutes. I don't think it would have been as bad except that Chris had quit his crappy Comcast job earlier that month, with the promise that I would the employed one while he found except better. Except things don't always work out that way. So I was pretty upset, thinking it was because of something I had done blah blah etc etc.
Fortunately, it only took Aerotek a week or so to find me the K-line job. I'm apparently going to be a shipping clerk of some kind and the cool thing is K-line also has a headquarters in Tokyo. As in Japan. Awesome. That and (as Chris just pointed out) I'll be making a bit more money.
Okay, so I'm sure you're asking why I haven't started yet if it only took a week for Aerotek to find the job for me. That would be because of the medical company that took my drug testing. So my recruiter calls me last week or so that hey, I got the K-line job. YAY! I just have to fill out the paperwork, consent to the background check and do a drug screen. No big thing, I've done it all before. I go to Aerotek, sign the stuff, and they give me this packet of stuff and send me to Concentra (or something like that) medical center which is just down the road from Aerotek. Chris and I drive down Broad and get to the building. I walk in, tell them what I'm there for. They say they'll be right with me. So we wait. And wait. I read some. And wait. Now there's not a lot of people in this waiting room, and I can see that they aren't understaffed, so I begin to wonder what's taking so long. A nurse calls me over and tells me I need to fill something out. I do so and she takes it and I go back to sit down. And wait.... and wait some more. Finally, they call me back. The nurse who's doing my test tells me she's never done this before. Oh good. But she swaps my month blah blah, it's packed up and I leave.
4 or so days later, I'm still waiting to hear back from Aerotek about when I start. I finally get a call from Aerotek, except it's not about when I start. There's apparently been an error with my drug test and I have to go back and re-take it. The error? The medical center lost my test. That's right, they LOST my test. Actually, they managed to lose more than one test. How does one lose multiple boxes that say "CAUTION: MEDICAL TEST SAMPLE" in black bold letters on it? At any rate, the next morning I go back to the medical center and am quite relieved when the nurse says I don't have to wait since it was their error. So I take the test again and leave, hoping I won't have to make another appearance there. Fortunately, they learned from their mistake apparently as Aerotek finally called last week to say everything went fine and that I'd be starting tomorrow.
Speaking of jobs, Chris also has found a temp job, yay! It's part time working for a division of UPS. Or so his recruiter said. The building we found at the given address was... not UPS. So I have no idea, but he'll find out tomorrow! ^.^
Wow, this is a long post for me. That's what I get for not updating more I suppose.
In other news, I've picked out my wedding dress! It's pretty and I can't wait to try on the final product. (I need to alter some things and I'm adding sleeves to it). Chris and I have also put our date on hold with Maymont and have even picked out our ceremony spot. It's really pretty and apparently no other couple has ever gotten married there. I'm sure you guys will thank me as I chose a spot closer to the park entrance as opposed to the gardens that are a bit of a walk. Up and down hill. So yeah. And the reception hall isn't far away from the gazebo. The next task is finding a caterer and florist. Huzzah.
Right, so I'm going to end this post now as it's way longer than I wanted.
